Supplementation 101

I have been reaching out to my clients asking what they would like to learn about and learning about supplements was a common request. Supplements are a great way to boost your body’s own mechanisms and support any areas of deficiency. I personally love to supplement daily as I notice the difference in my energy levels and mood.

So first off, what should you take?

If you have never popped any supplements before, here are the must haves:

-Something GREEN: Chlorella, Spirlina, Wheatgrass

-Omega 3: krill oil, fish oil, fermented cod liver oil, or vegan alternatives. Omega 3 is anti-inflammatory and is a healthy fat which is a pre-cursor to many hormonal functions.

-Vitamin C: sounds basic, but it is basically very essential to our immunity and detox pathways

-Vitamin D3: living in Saskatchewan, our skin doesn’t get to synthesize this vitamin via sunlight for many months. This vitamin is great for boosting your immunity, mood, brain, and keeping bones strong. It is even better is taken or combined with vitamin K2 for bone health.

-Vitamin B: there are many different types of vitamin B, a good quality, methylated, B complex will cover the bases here. B vitamins are great when you are stressed or need extra energy.

-Probiotic: there are so many different strains of beneficial bacteria out there, and there are definitely better quality probiotics and poor quality ones. Your immune system starts in your gut so having healthy bacteria helps modulate an appropriate immune response. These beneficial bacteria also help break down food - so this can help assimilate proper nutrients and help with energy levels.

If you need help picking out supplements or want me to take the guess work out of supplementation - I am here to help. I can virtually set you up with a Fullscript account and send out a prescription via email.
